Police find loaded handgun during not-so-routine Mississauga traffic stop

A Mississauga man is facing a rash of firearm and drug charges after police found a loaded Glock 33 handgun inside a car during a traffic stop today (Oct. 6) near Square One Shopping Centre.  

After pulling over a vehicle near Confederation Pkwy. and Princess Royal Dr., Peel Regional Police patrol officers discovered the loaded weapon, with a prohibited extended magazine, and an amount of marijuana. 

Deputy Chief Marc Andrews praised the officers, saying there’s no such thing as a routine traffic stop. 

“Despite the unknown risks they faced at the time, the diligent investigation by the officers has helped take another illegal firearm off our streets, and contributed to the safety and well-being of our community,” said Andrews.  

Devin Yates, 20, of Mississauga, is charged with: 

  • Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  • Tampering with a Serial Number of a Firearm
  • Occupant of a Motor Vehicle, Knowing There was a Firearm
  • Carrying a Concealed Weapon
  • Possession of a Prohibited Device,Knowingit is Unauthorized 
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (four counts)
  • Possessing Cannabis for the Purpose of Selling
  • Drive Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available 

He appeared in Brampton court today.
