Halton Regional Police have confirmed the name of a Milton business owner who was one of two people shot to death during a shooting rampage that began yesterday afternoon in Mississauga and ended in Hamilton with the death of a suspect.

Police said Shakeel Ashraf, 38, died in a tragic shooting at the auto repair shop he owned at Bronte St. S. and Main St. in Milton.

Ashraf, who is being remembered as a loving father and devoted husband, died in the rampage that started in Mississauga with the death of Toronto Police Const. Andrew Hong.

Halton police say they responded to multiple reports of a shooting at MK Auto Repairs at about 2:50 p.m. on Monday. Police found three victims with gunshot wounds when they arrived on the scene.

“Tragically, 38-year-old Shakeel Ashraf, of Milton, died at the scene and two other victims were transported to hospital,” police say.

The two victims remain in critical and serious condition and police are not releasing their names at this time.

Shortly after the shooting in Milton, Halton police officers along with their Hamilton Police counterparts found a suspect in a cemetery in Hamilton “where an altercation took place with police.”

The suspect died and the Special Investigations Unit is now investigating that altercation.

Halton police offered condolences to the families and friends of the victims.

“Our thoughts are with each victim, their families and friends, and are with all members of the Toronto Police Service and our greater police family as well throughout this terribly tragic time,” said Halton police Chief Stephen Tanner.
