Police charged alleged Toronto thieves for stealing $100K in cell phones

Peel police have charged four Torontonians with stealing more than $100,000 worth of cell phones from a Mississauga mall.

Between July and December, Peel Regional Police say there were a series of thefts from stores near the Square One Shopping Centre at Hurontario St. and Burnhamthorpe Rd. West.

The large number of thefts resulted in a loss of more than $100,000 in good according to police, who have laid at least 18 charges of theft under $5,000 against four people from Toronto, including a 66-year-old woman.

One of the accused is also facing an assault with intent to resist arrest.

Police have charged: , the following individuals have been charged:

  • Isabel Otero Puido, 66, of Toronto, with eight counts of theft under $5000.
  • Juan Carlos Salamanca, 38 of Toronto, with eight counts of theft under $5000.
  • Luisa Maria Ocamp-Arroyave, 35, of Toronto, with theft under $5,000 and assault with intent to resist arrest.
  • Wimler Johan Fonseca Diz , 35, of Toronto, with Theft Under $5000.

The accused were all released on an undertaking and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on a future date.
