Barrie police say Brampton driver charged after handgun and drugs found at traffic stop

Police have laid more than a dozen weapon and drug charges against a Brampton man after a traffic stop in Barrie.

On Tuesday, police say they were conducting a traffic stop in the area of Essa Rd. and Hwy 400 when officers spotted a cannabis cigarette on the driver’s lap.

Police say they discovered the driver had a suspended licence and arrested the man.

Officers say they searched the vehicle and found a loaded 9mm Glock handgun, cocaine, fentanyl, crystal meth, cannabis and a number of stolen licence plates.

The 28-year-old male from Brampton has been charged with 18 offences including:

  • Unauthorised Possession of a Firearm
  • Three counts of Possession Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Possession of firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
  • Possession Property obtained by crime
  • Driving While Under Suspension

The man’s name has not been released. Police say he was held in custody and is awaiting a bail hearing.
