POlice car rammed by teen driving stolen truck in Ajax

An Ajax teenager is facing a battery of charges, including impaired driving and flight from police, after a police cruiser was rammed by a stolen vehicle last month.

Durham Police say officers observed a Ford pick-up truck “driving dangerously” in a parking lot near Westney Road and Kingston Road in the early hours of June 11.  Officers attempted to contain the vehicle during a traffic stop but the driver “intentionally” rammed the cruiser and fled the scene.

A short time later, it was confirmed the vehicle had been stolen from a home in Ajax.

Officers later found truck parked in at Bayly Street and Burcher Road. Police were able to contain the vehicle this time and the driver was taken into custody.

A 16-year-old male has been charged with flight from police, impaired operation, over 0.8, dangerous operation, driving while under suspension, possession of stolen property and two counts of failing to comply with release order.

He was held for a bail hearing.

At the time of his arrest, the boy was on conditions not to operate any motor vehicle.

Anyone with cell phone, dash cam, surveillance footage or information about this incident is asked to contact the Cst. Kinchsular of West Division at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1901.

Anonymous information can be sent to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.durhamregionalcrimestoppers.ca and tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward.
