A Hamilton man who allegedly brandished a knife and made “stabbing motions” at people has been arrested, police say.

Police say the incident occurred shortly before 8 am on June 29, 2023, in the Hughson Street and King Street East area.

Officers say they located 37-year-old James Rankin near James St. and King St., confronted him and ordered him to drop the knife.

Police allege he failed to comply and advanced toward the officers while holding the weapon, prompting police to execute a gun-point arrest.

The man now faces two charges, including possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and disobeying a court order.

The investigation is still ongoing and police urge anyone with information to contact 905-546-4725.
