Halton Police will be on foot patrol in downtown Burlington starting this weekend to keep the streets safe from rowdy behaviour.

Starting this weekend and continuing throughout the summer months, police say they are taking the proactive approach to address ongoing concerns such as “excessive noise, disruptive behaviour and vandalism.”

A source said the move is prompted by incidents in the past where police were called out on a regular basis to troublesome downtown hotspots.

Officially, police say with an increase in events this summer, the patrols are “meant to ensure a safe and fun summer for everyone in the downtown Burlington area.”

It has not been determined how many officers will be assigned to walking the streets but the patrols will take place Saturday and Sunday nights.

“This strategic and coordinated policing plan will ensure downtown Burlington remains a safe and enjoyable destination for Burlington residents, businesses and visitors,” a statement by police reads.
