Scheduled weeknight road closures on a major Oakville/Burlington roadway set to begin tonight (Nov. 28) have been delayed.

Construction on Dundas St. from Sutton Dr. to Tremaine Rd. to support improvements being made to Tansley Bridge have been moved back and are now set to begin on Dec. 12, 2022.

Work on the bridge to widen the road, add new sidewalks and bike lands, and provide new lookout points will see the section of Dundas St. closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on weeknights.

The closures are expected to end by Dec. 23, 2022.

Oakville Transit says the work will require its Route 5 bus to be detoured.

For westbound travel towards Burlington, the 8:40 p.m. and 9:40 p.m. Route 5 from Oakville GO will travel as far as Dundas and Colonel William Parkway, where the bus will short turn and go out of service.

A shuttle will operate from Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital at 9:12 p.m. and 10:12 p.m. upon arrival of the regular Route 5. Dundas, Colonel William, Upper Middle, Bronte, QEW, Burloak (turns into Upper Middle), Sutton and Dundas to Dundas/407.

For eastbound travel towards Oakville, the 9:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. eastbound Route 5 from Dundas/407 will operate via shuttle, leaving at 9:40 p.m. and 10:40 p.m. arriving at OTMH at 10:08 p.m. and 11:08 p.m. The connecting Route 5 East will depart the OTMH at 10:46 p.m. and 11:10pm.

The regularly scheduled Route 5 eastbound will depart Dundas and Bronte at 9:41p.m. and 10:41 p.m.

“The project will address future traffic demands and provide safe travel options for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists,” says Halton Region.

Local access, access to businesses and emergency access will be maintained along Dundas Street at all times.
