Pitbull behind attacks on three people in Burlington

A large pitbull was behind the attack on three Burlington residents yesterday (June 6).

One of the victims is now listed in critical condition at hospital, while another is in serious condition.

A Halton police officer had to shoot and kill the large animal to rescue those that were being mauled.

According to police reports, officers arrived at the scene on Caplan Cres. just after 3:30 p.m. yesterday and found the dog attacking its two owners and a neighbour who rushed over to help.

“An officer attempted to subdue the dog using a Taser (several times) however that was not successful. Given the severity of the incident and risk to those at the scene, the officer fatally shot the dog and ended the attack,” according to information supplied by police.

One of the victims, the dog’s owner, received severe injuries and remains in hospital in critical condition. Another owner is being treated with serious injuries, while the neighbour needed medical attention but was not taken to hospital.

In 2005 Ontario banned the ownership of pitbulls but Doug Ford relaxed many of the regulations when he came to power under pressure from breeders and animal rights activists.
