Niagara Police had to call off a chase this morning (November 9) in Welland over concerns of public safety.

Police were alerted to a potential drunk driver and passenger at a fast-food restaurant in the King Street and Kent Street area at 7:30 am.

Once arriving, they spotted the white GMC Sierra pickup but in the Prince Charles Drive and Lincoln Street in front of a different fast-food restaurant. They quickly discovered the vehicle was stolen.

The first officer on the scene blocked the truck in but it rammed the fully marked cruiser and squeezed its way out of the lot.  Officers very quickly discontinued any pursuit out of a concern for public safety. The truck was last seen heading west on Lincoln Street near Riverside Drive.

No officers were injured in the ramming and they reported minor damage to the police SUV.

Anyone who may have information about the identity of the driver or passengers of the truck, or the truck’s current location, is asked to call 905-688-4111, extension 1023300.
