Wondering how to exercise and how to have some fun at the same time?

You can play at one of the city’s outdoor or indoor pickleball courts. The outdoor courts at Confederation Beach Park are now open for one-hour bookings. At this park, there is no fee to use the courts, except for weekly or tournament rentals, and it’s open to people of all ages.

For the Confederation Beach Park location, online reservations must be made 25 hours in advance. The courts are open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. (Other outdoor locations don’t require a reservation.)

Pickleball is a paddle-racquet sport played on a small court that’s a fusion of badminton, tennis and table tennis.

The Confederation Park courts offer weekly court rental opportunities. Each rental includes six courts for two hours for a six-week session at $29.88 + HST per hour.

At the park’s outdoor courts, you’ll need to bring your own paddles and balls, though nets are provided.

For indoor pickleball, players must be over 18 years old, except on Tuesdays at the Ancaster Rotary Centre, which has pickleball for families from 9 a.m. to noon until June 25. All skill levels are welcome. Recreational-level paddles and balls are available. It’s first come, first served. Players can stay for flexible periods at each location.

There is a fee to play at the indoor locations. For those with a yearly gym and swim membership, any open swims or drop-in programming such as pickleball will cost $50.26 for youth (aged 2-17) and older adults (aged 55-plus); for adults at least 18 years old, the yearly pass is $119.15. Without membership, it will cost $3.63 for youth and seniors for each pickleball booking, and for adults it’s $5.41.
