Pickering Town Centre is having a party tomorrow and you’re invited as the mall, which opened in 1972 as Pickering Sheridan Mall with 80 stores, celebrates a half-century in business.

PTC, as it’s known by locals, is hosting special events Saturday and all through the month of October as they take a trip through the decades. You can share your memories, support a fantastic cause, and win prizes.

Pickering Town Centre, which has nearly doubled in size since 1972 with 150 stores now, went though its first renovation in 1998, then underwent a $17 million facelift in 2008-2009 with new floors, ceilings, lighting and seating areas.

The next major renovation and expansion came after Target Canada closed all its stores in 2015. The former Target store in Pickering was replaced by 3 new stores, a Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH outlet store, Cineplex Cinemas 11 and VIP movie theater and a Farm Boy food market.

There are also redevelopment plans for the former Famous Players movie theater and a Sears department store (under demolition to be replaced by condos) at the mall. In 2018 new stores were added such as Winners/HomeSense and a Hakim Optical store.

Happy Birthday PTC!
