Pickering Executive Committee members were busy approving nearly $2.5 million in upgrades for the city’s fire department Monday, with slightly over half dedicated to the purchase of a new Fire Pumper Rescue Apparatus.

The truck, worth $1.396 million, will be supplied by Dependable Truck & Tank Limited, with $1.39 million to be funded through debentures (to be re-paid in five years) and the remainder paid through property taxes.

The committee also approved spending $180,000 on a 1-ton truck with service body replacement (Paramount Truck Sales), $292,000 on three ¾ Dump Trucks (East Court Ford Lincoln) and $565,000 on five 1-ton trucks with up-fitting (Blue Mountain Chrysler).

The approvals are all pending Council’s final say at a subsequent meeting.
