Pickering postal code reports over 15% COVID-19 positivity, second worst in Ontario

One area in north Pickering is among those with the highest COVID-19 percent positivity rates (percentage of positive COVID-19 tests in the area) in Ontario.

Toronto-based research group ICES listed postal code areas in Ontario with the highest percent positivity rates for the week of August 1 to 7.

Of the top 50 listed, one is in Pickering: Postal code L1Y which is reporting 15.79% positivity.

L1Y has the second highest COVID-19 positivity in Ontario.

The same data for the week indicates that out of all of Ontario’s 34 public health units, Durham has the 10th highest COVID-19 positivity, higher than Ontario overall.

For all Ontario residents, the overall percent positivity among those tested for COVID-19 during the week of August 1 was 1.6%, an increase from 0.9% the previous week.

Ontario has reached 79% overall vaccine coverage of at least one dose, and 70% are now fully vaccinated (up 5% from the previous week.
