The City of Pickering is offering residents a chance to buy a shrub on the cheap with the LEAF Backyard Tree Planting program.

The subsidized tree/shrub program, offered in partnership with the Region of Durham and LEAF (Local Enhancement and Appreciation of Forests), offers residential, multi-unit, and commercial property owners the opportunity to purchase a native tree or shrub at discounted rates.

“The City is proud to partner with LEAF to offer the Backyard Tree Planting Program,” said Mayor Kevin Ashe. “This subsidized program provides residents with the opportunity to beautify their own properties, while increasing Pickering’s tree canopy and natural habitat at the same time.”

Participants can choose either the full service or do-It-yourself planting package.

The full service option provides homeowners with an in-person arborist consultation, a native tree, and a full planting service from experienced LEAF staff for $160 to $230 per tree.

The do-It-yourself deal offers a virtual consultation with an arborist, a native tree delivered to the participants home, and educational videos for planting for $110 to $180 per tree. This option applies to front, side, and back yards.
