Pickering man charged in two pharmacy robberies

A Pickering man has been charged in connection to two separate pharmacy robberies from the end of January.
The first robbery occurred on Jan. 23, according to Durham Regional Police. That afternoon, shortly before 5 p.m., a man allegedly walked into the Blue Skies Guardian Pharmacy in a plaza off Kingston Rd. and demanded narcotics. He was able to get hold of some drugs and fled the scene on foot.
Next, on Jan. 24, a man walked into the Brooklin IDA Pharmacy on Baldwin St., this time armed with a knife. Police allege he again demanded narcotics and opioids before grabbing the drugs and running westward.
Nobody was hurt in either robbery.
Weeks after the robberies, police announced an arrest in connection with them. On Feb. 10, they said they had arrested Kenneth Mark, 47, of Pickering, on eight charges, including two counts of robbery with a weapon and two counts of possession of a dangerous weapon.
Mark remains in custody until his bail hearing.
