A human trafficking investigation into a woman being recruited into the sex trade has landed a Pickering man behind bars, with police in Durham Region concerned there may be more victims.
The DRPS Human Trafficking Unit began an investigation earlier this year after it was reported that a woman was being trafficked in the sex trade.
Further investigation revealed the suspect is alleged to have facilitated the victim’s work in the sex trade, assaulted her, and controlled her finances.
Investigators wrapped up their investigation on Thursday and took Jameel Winston Snipe-Daring into custody.
Snipe-Daring, 28, is charged with trafficking in persons, trafficking in persons by exercising control, procuring, financial benefit for a person over 18 and assault.
He was held for a bail hearing.
