Pickering launching pilot EV charging program

The City of Pickering will be launching its first publicly accessible electric vehicle charging stations next Thursday.
The pilot project supports the City’s efforts to promote EV ownership and reduce greenhouse gas emissions and was partially funded through Natural Resources Canada’s Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program.
The program provided funding to Elexicon for the installation of EV chargers across Ontario.
Elexicon held a ribbon cutting ceremony on April 28 to mark the completion of its Seaton Municipal Transformer Station Number 1, the company’s first municipal transformer station wholly owned and operated by the utility. It will provide connection capacity for approximately 20,000 homes and businesses in the City of Pickering and Town of Ajax to support the growth in these communities and allow for the connection of renewable energy resources. .
A demonstration of the new public chargers will take place Thursday, May 25 from 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Chestnut Hill Development Recreation Complex on Valley Farm Road in downtown Pickering, with various dignitaries in attendance.
