The Region is performing its nuclear alert system test yesterday and today.

The test rings out every six months. This time the date falls on October 18 and 19.

The system is designed to warn residents of any potential nuclear emergencies.

On October 18, landline phones within 10 kilometres of either power plant received a robocall to test phone warning systems. Today outdoor sirens will blare their warning call for one minute. They are all stationed within three kilometres of the plants.

Ontario will test the provincial alert system through mobile phones, TV and the radio on November 17.

The next Regional test is scheduled for the spring.
