PICK A SIDE Results: Majority of people opposed to DST

Throughout the last few months, battle lines have been drawn, opinions have been voiced, and sides have been picked.

We’ve asked for your opinions, readers, on several controversial topics, such as how early is too early for Christmas decorations, shopping in-store or online, and virtual holiday get-togethers; these are the results.

When a second province-wide lockdown was announced, there was some confusion as to whether pet walkers could continue working. While there was some initial confusion, we asked whether pet walkers SHOULD be considered essential. According to the results, 86.5 per cent of you felt they should, while only 13.5 per cent felt they should not.

As the weather got colder, and indoor activities became more restricted, we asked what your favourite outdoor winter activity was. According to the results, it was impossible to pick just one—21.43 per cent of you chose skating, 21.43 per cent of you chose downhill skiing or snowboarding, 21.43 per cent of you chose drinking, and 21.43 per cent chose hiking. Additionally, 14.29 per cent of you chose tobogganing, and 14.29 per cent of you chose other.

While the Super Bowl was undoubtedly different this year, there was on thing that remained consistent—the snacks. We asked what the best Super Bowl snack was. According to the results, 5.56 per cent of you thought it was chili, 5.56 per cent of you thought it was chips and dip, and the vast majority—88.89 per cent of you—thought the best Super Bowl snack was wings.

Over the last few weeks, there has been a lot of talk about a project being pushed by the Province regarding a new highway. While many regional governments have come out against the 413, we asked you, the residents, what you thought. According to the results, 69.9 per cent of you feel it would be beneficial to help alleviate traffic, while only 30.1 per cent feel it would be too costly for taxpayers and the environment.

While some consider Groundhog Day the unofficial start of spring, others feel it’s the return of the Shamrock Shake. We asked what you thought about the polarizing beverage. According to the results, 60 per cent of you love it, while 40 per cent of you can’t stand it.

With the pandemic having surpassed a full year, every major holiday has now been affected. With restrictions in place, we asked if you would be celebrating St. Paddy’s Day virtually this year. According to the results, 90.9 per cent of you would not, as it wouldn’t be the same, while 9.1 per cent of you said you still planned on trying it.

Finally, with the clocks recently moving forward, we asked if you thought we should still be observing Daylight Saving Time. According to the results, only 26.2 per cent of you enjoy the extra sunlight, while 73.8 per cent felt it was time to get rid of it.
