If you’ve been looking for a house or apartment to rent in Mississauga, you know the pickings are slimmer than usual. While a few more purpose-built rental units are coming to the city (two rental apartments are planned for the Sheridan and Cooksville neighbourhoods), the city’s vacancy rate sits at 0.8 per cent and the lack of inventory is driving prices higher.

In fact, one bedroom units in Mississauga cost more than similar units in Vancouver.

A recently released February 2019 Rent Report, put together by Rentals.ca and Bullpen Research & Consulting, also points out that Mississauga boasts the fourth highest average rent for a two-bedroom apartment.

According to the report, Mississauga residents are paying about $1,877 a month for a one-bedroom unit (and in a city where the rental vacancy rate sits at just 0.8 per cent, the trend isn’t all that surprising).

Two-bedroom apartments are even more unaffordable, averaging $2,231 a month.

Fortunately for residents, there are still apartments available for rent–but some of them are quite costly for the size.

Zoocasa, a real estate brokerage, recently compiled a list of some of the smallest apartments for insauga.com.

Let’s take a look:

5) 172 – 4975 Southampton Dr.

Ah, a townhouse! It sounds luxurious, until you consider the fact that this unit is no more than 499 square feet. That’s pretty cozy for a town. The unit also costs $1,600 a month, so it’s not cheap. The tenant is also responsible for paying for the hot water tank, gas and hydro. While it is tiny, it does offer a fenced patio, a funky mirrored backsplash and a stacked washer and dryer.

507 – 50 Absolute Lease Ave.

Coming in at less than 600 square feet, this rental unit will cost you $1,950 a month. It offers one bedroom, one bathroom and one parking space. Since it’s close to Square One, you won’t have to spend too much time inside if you don’t want to (but in this market, 500 square feet really isn’t terrible–especially if you’re a solo renter).

1218 – 339 Rathburn Rd. W.

Also coming in at less than 600 square feet, this one bedroom, one bathroom condo costs $1,950 a month to rent. It offers a modern kitchen with a breakfast bar (so that’s a nice touch), and the building itself offers some pretty nice amenities–including a pool and exercise room.

2106 – 3975 Grand Park Dr.

Coming in somewhere between 500 and 599 square feet, this unit will cost a whopping $2,100 a month to rent. Offering one bedroom, one bathroom and one parking space, the listing says the unit offers a spacious bedroom with his and her closets and a semi-ensuite bathroom.

2712 – 223 Webb Dr.

This place, which also offers between 500-599 square feet of living space, will cost you $2,050 a month. Located in the sleek Onyx building, it offers 9 ft. ceiling, floor-to-ceiling windows, stainless steel appliances and a granite countertop.

3206 – 4070 Confederation Pkwy.

Coming in at just over 500 square feet, this Parkside Village unit will cost you $2,200–and that’s just for one one bedroom and one bathroom. While it’s not huge, it does offer an upgraded kitchen with granite countertops and stainless steel appliances.

2203 – 4011 Brickstone Mews

There are no interior photos of this 500-599 square foot unit, but we do know the one bedroom, one bathroom suite will cost $2,050 a month to rent. According to the listing, the unit has a spacious living and dining room with floor to ceiling windows.
