People divided on need for Canada Post home delivery: poll

People are divided on the need for home delivery from Canada Post, a new poll has found.

In April, Canada Post announced homes receiving door-to-door delivery will transition to community mailboxes over the next five years.

The process will see approximately four million addresses that still receive door-to-door delivery go to community mailboxes.

In the Greater Toronto Area, homes in the M9V and M9W areas of Etobicoke will be the first to lose home delivery starting in late 2026 and early 2027. Homes in Ottawa, Vancouver and Winnipeg will also begin the move to community mailboxes in 2026/27.

Converting an address from door-to-door delivery to a community mailbox typically takes months, Canada Post said. Canada Post will engage with communities as it identifies suitable locations for community mailbox sites. It is also notifying residents of the upcoming change to their mail delivery, and will keep them, businesses, bargaining agents and employees informed every step of the way.

The move comes as Canada Post reported $1.57 billion loss before tax for 2025. The Crown corporation said it is moving away from taxpayer-funded cash injections and becoming self sustainable.

A poll from INsauga.com indicates people are divided on the issue.

INsauga.com asked: Do we need to keep home delivery from Canada Post?

As of May 1, 51.6 per cent, 1,556 people, said yes, they want to keep home delivery. Another 1,455 people or 48.3 per cent said no.
