Peel’s COVID numbers remain steady, but Provincial cases again reach record high

Peel Region is recording 512 new cases of COVID-19 today (Dec. 7), while Ontario again reaches a new highpoint in the number of new cases.

Peel’s numbers have been relatively consistent the past week averaging 479 new cases per day since December 1.

In the entire province, there are 1,925 new cases today, a number that continues to climb as the record high has been broken three days in a row. As well, the numbers show that 80 per cent of all cases are in the GTHA (Greater Toronto Area and Hamilton).

Other areas reporting numbers today include Toronto with 601 new cases, York Region with 167, Durham Region with 133, Halton Region has 54, and Hamilton has 76 new cases.

Today’s information also shows that 26 people have died in the past 24 hours due to COVID-19; half are those who were living in long-term homes.

The Ontario government says 725 are being treated for the coronavirus in hospitals with 213 patients in intensive care units.
