Peel Regional Chair Nando Iannicca chosen as new head of Peel police board

Peel Regional Chair Nando Iannicca has been elected as board Chair of the Peel Police Services Board.

The Peel Regional Police board has a new chair after the board’s previous head was suddenly removed from his position last week.

Ron Chatha announced his departure as chair of the Peel Police Services Board in a tweet on April 12. He had just been reappointed for a three-year term on Jan. 27 before being reportedly pulled by the province.

Now, Peel Regional Chair Nando Iannicca has been elected as board chair. Iannicca was selected to replace Chatha at a board meeting on Friday (April 210.

“Nando has a passion for public service, community safety and Peel Region,” Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown said in a tweet on Friday.

Iannicca is the current Chair of the Region of Peel and formerly held the position of Regional Councillor for Ward 7 in Mississauga.

Chatha is a Brampton real estate brokerage owner who has served on many committee boards including the Peel Children’s Aid Foundation and Brampton’s School Traffic Safety Council.

He was first appointed to the Regional Municipality of Peel Police Services Board in 2019. He was appointed chair of the board in 2022.
