Peel Region reports 28 new COVID-19 cases in Mississauga and Brampton

There were 28 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Peel Region on Friday.

According to Peel Public Health (PPH), Mississauga had 16 of the new cases and Brampton had 12. No new cases were reported from Caledon.

This brings the total for the Region to 117,982 cases. Of these, 116,721 have recovered, while 239 are still pending, 3,490 have been hospitalized.

PPH says 1,023 people from all three Peel Region municipalities have died of the virus, with 553 of deaths from Mississauga, 446 from Brampton, 24 from Caledon and other parts of the region.

Sherwood Heights School in Mississauga also reported an outbreak of COVID-19 on Thursday.

An outbreak in a school is defined as two or more lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases in students, staff or providers with an epidemiological link within a 14-day period where at least one case could have acquired infection in the school.

Data from province shows a total of 419 new COVID-19 cases across Ontario on Friday. Of those new cases 231 were unvaccinated individuals, 140 were vaccinated, 24 were partially vaccinated and another 24 had an unknown vaccination status.

As of Thursday, 88.5 per cent of eligible Peel residents have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and 83.8 per cent have been fully immunized. More than 6,500 individuals have also recieved a thrid booster dose.
