A 22-year veteran of the Peel Regional Police has been arrested and charged with uttering threats.

Peel Regional Police say Detective Constable Joao Moco was arrested on Thursday (Aug. 18) and charged with one count of uttering threats following a five-month long investigation.

The officer was off-duty at the time of the incident according to police, who did not provide any details on when or where the incident allegedly took place, or who made the complaint.

Moco is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on October 3.

Once the criminal proceedings are concluded, police said there will be a Police Services Act investigation into the matter.

A request for comment from Peel Regional Police was not immediately returned.
