Officers are investigating after the sacred scriptures of a Sikh temple in Brampton were reportedly ripped up.

According to Mayor Patrick Brown, the city received reports from residents that someone had “desecrated” sacred Sikh scriptures from Gurudwara Dasmesh Darbar, located on Ebenezer Rd near The Gore Rd.

Police, who were notified of the incident on Thursday afternoon, say it happened sometime on Wednesday, December 2.

“We have asked Peel Police to look into this matter immediately,” said Brown. “I hope those responsible are brought to justice and held accountable.”

There is currently no suspect description and the investigation is ongoing, police say.

Various MPs have commented on the incident, with Brampton MP Kamal Khera and MPP Amarjot Sandhu calling it “disturbing” and “deplorable.”

“Extremely appalled to learn about this disturbing incident that took place at Gurdwara Dasmesh Darbar in Brampton,” said Khera. “This type of behaviour has absolutely no place in our society.”
