Pedestrian suffers serious injuries in collision in St. Catharines

A man suffered serious injuries after he was hit by a car in St. Catharines.

The man in his 70s was crossing the road at the intersection of Glenridge Avenue and Glen Morris Drive just after 8 a.m. on Oct. 3, Niagara Regional Police said in a press release today (Oct. 4).

A grey 2019 Chevrolet Silverado struck the man as he was crossing, police said.

Niagara Emergency Medical Services paramedics and St. Catharines Fire Service treated the man on scene and he was sent to an out of region hospital in critical condition.

Initially the man was believed to have life-threatening injuries, but police now say he remains in hospital with serious injuries.

A 41-year-old man from Newmarket faces charges of not turning safely.

The intersection was closed during the investigation and reopened at approximately 3:15 p.m. yesterday.

The road closure impacted the two high schools in the immediate area as well as local traffic, police said.
