Low taxes, keeping the community safe and finishing Brampton’s second hospital are just some of the priorities Mayor Patrick Brown says he will focus on if he’s elected for another term.

On Wednesday, a spokesperson for the incumbent Brampton mayor confirmed Brown will enter the October municipal election in his third bid for city council’s top job.

“Mayor Brown confirms he will run for his third term and continue his work on combating crime, keeping taxes low, creating the jobs of tomorrow and finishing construction of Brampton’s second hospital,” a spokesperson said in a statement to INsauga.com. “(Brown) is busy with his mayoral duties and campaigning for another term comes second to the work of the city. But the mayor is grateful for all the messages from residents encouraging him to run again.”

Brown – who was first elected mayor of Brampton in 2018 following allegations of sexual misconduct which the mayor has denied and led to a settlement with CTV News – hasn’t officially filled the election paperwork and doesn’t appear as a candidate on the city’s election website.

The deadline to enter the race is Aug. 21 at 2 p.m.

The mayor said last October he was aiming to run again in Brampton, but hadn’t officially made a decision ahead of the birth of his third child. Brown is married to Genevieve Gualtieri-Brown, who is also the daughter of Silvia Gualtier, the Progressive Conservative MPP for Mississauga East—Cooksville.

Brown made a failed bid earlier in 2022 for Conservative Party of Canada leader. He was disqualified from the race over allegations that his campaign broke election finance rules.

He cruised into a second term in Brampton with 59.65 per cent of votes.

He faced off against five other candidates in the race – Nikki Kaur, Bob Dosanjh Singh, Vidya Sagar Gautam, Prabh Kaur Mand, and Tony Moracci. The closest candidate to challenge Brown in the race was Kaur, who received around 25 per cent of the vote.

As of Wednesday afternoon, officially-registered mayoral candidates for the October 2026 election are Jagruti Bhatt, Avi Dhaliwal, Vidya Gautam, Tirth Patel and Sandeep Somal.
