An argument on a downtown St. Catharines patio took an ugly turn when a 60-year-old man found himself on the receiving end of a beating, according to police.

On July 10 at 8:45 pm, police were called to the restaurant on St. Paul St between James St and Garden Park and found the victim suffering from serious injuries. He was treated in hospital and has since been released.

Police allege that both the victim and suspect were at a table with others when a “minor verbal disagreement” occurred. Police say the suspect stood up and started punching the older man in the face, knocking him to the ground.

Leaving the man on the ground, the suspect and the rest of the group fled the scene, heading east on St. Paul St.

The suspect, shown below, is described as a white male, 35 to 40 years old, short with a slim build, and short blonde hair with possibly a moustache. He was last seen wearing a large long-sleeved black t-shirt with a logo on the front, blue jeans, and white Adidas sneakers.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the investigating officers by calling 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1009450.
