The Lincoln Alexander Parkway’s westbound lanes have reopened but eastbound lanes are expected to be closed until the evening after a fiery crash that left a man fighting for his life in a hospital in Hamilton.

“Eastbound lanes will remain closed likely into the evening, as the City is working to repair the damage caused to the road from the vehicle fire,” the Hamilton Police Services tweeted just after noon today (June 19).

Police said emergency crews were called shortly after 1:30 a.m. following a two-vehicle crash that caused a man, 24, to suffer serious and life-threatening injuries Monday (June 19).

A vehicle travelling eastbound was trying to merge from the parkway to Upper James, but it hit another vehicle. One vehicle burst into flames and the other flipped on its roof.

Police said earlier this morning that the Lincoln Alexander Parkway was closed in both directions between Upper James and Upper Wentworth. It had flown a drone over the area earlier as part of the investigation.
