A parkette in Halton Hills has been named in honour of a woman who served on local council for nearly three decades.

The Moya Johnson Parkette was officially unveiled over the weekend with many friends, family and colleagues on hand.

“Moya was a colleague and a friend and we miss her at the Council table,” said Mayor Ann Lawlor. “I am glad we were able to start this project in the last term of council and share with Moya that her spirit and legacy would live on through the naming of the Moya Johnson Parkette.”

Johnson was renowned for championing health and safety, the library, diversity, and accessibility, during her 28 years on Halton Hills Town Council.

Residents are encouraged to enjoy the parkette amenities which include a playground, range of seating options for people to lounge and socialize, and native plants that are firefly, bird, and butterfly friendly. It’s located at 14 Mill St. in Georgetown.
