The replacement of a popular feature at a park in Mississauga’s north end has been delayed, the city councillor for the area says.
Initially expected to be completed in August, the project to replace the lookout structure at Lake Aquitaine Park in the Meadowvale area of the city with a newer model has hit a temporary snag.
Ward 9 Coun. Martin Reid said in his latest community newsletter that “construction progress has been impacted by unusually high rainfall this spring, resulting in elevated water levels that have delayed dewatering activities.”
He added members of the project team are “actively addressing these conditions, and an updated schedule will be shared once timelines are confirmed.”
While parts of the nearly 50-year-old park have been updated/replaced over the years, including the installation of a renovated playground in 2025, the lookout is one particular component that’s seen better days.
“The Lake Aquitaine lookout has reached the end of its life cycle and will be replaced with a new lookout this year,” Reid said in an update to the community earlier this year.

Construction was scheduled to start in late March and be completed in August, the councillor added.
“The majority of the construction activity will not obstruct park trails. However, there will be intermittent closures in order to transport equipment and material. Flag people will be on-site to assist with traffic flow and ensure safety,” Reid said in an April update, adding there will be no public access to the existing boardwalk for the duration of the construction period.
Lookouts are elevated viewing areas within parks and other green spaces that offer visitors scenic looks at their surroundings.
The lookout feature at Lake Aquitaine Park, situated behind Meadowvale Community Centre, offers people a panoramic view of the man-made lake and other areas.
The lake, which is circled by a paved trail, serves as a stormwater management pond and is fed by run-off water from the surrounding area and meant to improve water quality before it enters the Credit River, the City of Mississauga says in an online description of the park.
A variety of fish can be found in Lake Aquitaine, including largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, rock bass, perch and crappie, the city added.
The revamped playground at the park, Adventure Playland, reopened last summer with new equipment and a safer ground surface made of rubber.
Located at Lake Aquitaine Park in the heart of Meadowvale just east of Meadowvale Town Centre, the adventure-themed kids’ playground now offers both new equipment and a safer play area, the city said earlier.
