Over a dozen charges for Brampton man after drug and gun bust

Four people including a man from Brampton have been hit with dozens of charges after a drug trafficking bust near Thunder Bay last week.

The Ontario Provincial Police says officers from the Kenora detachment searched a home in Atikokan on Friday (March 3) as part of an ongoing investigation.

When officers searched the home they found drugs, a firearm, prohibited devices, and ammunition, police said.

Four people were arrested and have been charged with some 40 combined charges including drug trafficking and gun-related offences.

Eric Morgan, 22, of Brampton has been charged with:

  • Three counts of Possession of Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Eight counts of Failure to Comply with a Release Order – Other Than to Attend Court
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Restricted or Prohibited Firearm
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over 5,000
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing Serial Number has been Tampered With
  • Possession a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm

Maj-lis Bailey, 34, of Atikokan has been charged with:

  • 3 counts of Possession of Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over 5,000
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Restricted or Prohibited Firearm
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon
  • Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing Serial Number has been Tampered With
  • Possession a Weapon for a Dangerous Person

Amanda Malenfant, 40, of Atikokan has been charged with:

  • Three counts of Possession of Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over 5,000
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Restricted or Prohibited Firearm
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon
  • Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing Serial Number has been Tampered With
  • Possession a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose

Nicola Racioppi, 45, of Atikokan has been charged with:

  • Two counts of Failure to Comply with a Release Order – Other Than to Attend Court

Police say the accused were remanded into custody and appeared in court on March 4. None of the allegations have been proven in court.

Atikokan is approximately 200 kilometres west of Thunder Bay.
