A power outage was reported in Mississauga as a thunderstorm hit the area.
Approximately 4,210 homes and businesses in the area of Mavis Road, Hurontario Street, Central Parkway East and Kennedy Road lost power this afternoon, according to Alectra Utilities.
The outage was reported at 1:18 p.m. today (Feb. 27).
Heavy rain, thunder and lightning hit the area as was in forecast, but it is too soon to say if the storm caused the outage, an Alectra spokesperson tells insauga.com.
“(The) cause of the outage has not yet been confirmed but it is likely storm-related,” the spokesperson said.
Crews have been dispatched.
The estimated restoration time is 4 p.m.
Update: Around 2 p.m. Alectra said power had been restored for over 80 per cent of customers.
Update 2: Just before 3 p.m. Alectra said power was restored to all customers in the area of Mavis Road, Hurontario Street, Central Parkway East and Kennedy Road. If you are still without power, call 1-833-ALECTRA.
Update 3: Today (Feb. 28), an Alectra spokesperson confirmed the cause of outage was a cable fault and it was not, in fact, related to the thunderstorm.
