Over $240 million in tourism revenue projected for Toronto during FIFA 2026 World Cup

Toronto is anticipated to generate over $240 million in revenue as the city prepares to host the upcoming FIFA 2026 World Cup.

It was reported today that Airbnb is officially teaming up with FIFA to accommodate as many international fans as possible during next year’s select games in Canada.

As a result, an unprecedented amount of tourism-based revenue is expected to hit the GTA, amounting to a projected $242 million in gross domestic product (GDP).

Additional projections also cited that nearly 1,400 full-time jobs will be supported due to travellers pouring into the city as well.

“The World Cup brings the world together — and so do we. Airbnb is proud to partner with FIFA to offer fans once-in-a-lifetime experiences during the tournaments—while welcoming hundreds of thousands of guests during the 2026 FIFA World Cup and driving meaningful economic impact for local communities,” said Brian Chesky, Airbnb co-founder and CEO, in an official statement.

Other Canadian cities are also projected to generate some substantial revenue due to the Airbnb partnership with FIFA, as Vancouver, the only other Canadian host city, is expected to surpass Toronto with a projected $297 million in GDP.

“In total, across both cities, the overall domestic revenue anticipated for Canada is $540 million, stemming from roughly 61,000 guests visiting both Toronto and Vancouver during the summer period.

A number not surprising, as even Airbnb’s top officials know full well the scope of what they are preparing for, with Chesky adding, “The FIFA World Cup 26 will be the biggest tournament in history.”
