More than 100 charges have been laid and several commercial truckers have been taken off the road in a single day by police in Caledon.
The day-long safety blitz ran on Wednesday with members of the Caledon OPP teaming up with Ministry of Transportation staff to watch for aggressive drivers, proper seatbelt use, distracted driving, and unsafe commercial motor vehicles on roads and highways.
In total, police say they inspected 34 commercial motor vehicles and laid 131 charges, leading to 8 trucks being taken out of service.
The safety blitz followed police patrolling Highway 10 to “proactively prepare” for more motorcycle riders on the roads as the weather heats up.
Some 26 charges were laid during the motorcycle safety crackdown including three stunt driving charges, four improperly displayed plate charges, and multiple speeding charges. But more than half of those 26 charges were issued to four-wheeled drivers, with only 11 issued to bikers.
With more drivers hitting the road police say motorists are encouraged to contact the OPP to report unsafe vehicles and unsafe driving behaviours by calling 911 or *OPP (*677) to report unsafe incidents.
