Over 1,000 of Ontario’s campsites are set to receive major renovations.
A post from earlier this week by the provincial government has indicated that $60 million is being put aside to completely rejuvenate the province’s provincial park camping network.
Correspondence from he province stated that this is part of a major incentive to help improve the quality and capacity of these campsites, as travel within Canada and Ontario has only been increasing.
Details behind the renovations include 300 new parks and sites, as well as a full-scale renovation of 800 existing campsites across Ontario — marking the largest expansion of Ontario’s camping and parks system in 50 years.
“More people than ever before are looking to vacation in Ontario and across Canada to support their local communities. With hundreds of new and upgraded campsites, we’re giving more people the opportunity to support local businesses and jobs while camping at Ontario Parks and making memories to last a lifetime,” said Todd McCarthy, Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks, in an official statement.
New sites are already scheduled for Driftwood, MacGregor Point, Bon Echo, and Killarney provincial parks, with more to follow into the new year.
Parallel to these applications, existing sites at Sandbanks, Arrowhead, and Bon Echo provincial parks will be upgraded with electrical service.
Additional parks are scheduled to be upgraded to electrified campsites in the future.
More details relayed by the province stated that Ontario’s most popular parks gain an average of 750,000 visitors each, and that these new upgrades will not only likely help that number grow, but also improve the comfort of all those visiting.
