The gang gets back together to pull off one last heist and all the action can be seen on the big screen in Mississauga’s downtown core as the hugely popular Celebration Square Movie Nights return the first week in August.

A 2025 American animated crime comedy film produced by DreamWorks Animation, The Bad Guys 2 kicks off this summer’s five-film series that’ll entertain outdoor Mississauga audiences throughout the rest of the summer on Thursday nights (see full movie listings below).

The movie nights, once again presented by INsauga.com, are scheduled each week starting Aug. 6 with The Bad Guys 2 and continuing until Sept. 3, the City of Mississauga said in an online event update.

What city officials describe as the largest outdoor movie screenings in Mississauga are open to all ages, admission is free and the venue is accessible. The films run from about 8-10 p.m., with a pre-show starting at 7:30 p.m.

Bad Guys come out of retirement

Launching the 2026 outdoor movie season at Celebration Square, The Bad Guys 2 — sequel to The Bad Guys (2022) — follows the story of, who else, the Bad Guys, who are forced to come out of retirement and join forces with an all-female criminal squad to perform one last heist.

The second film in the franchise stars Sam Rockwell, Marc Maron, Awkwafina, Craig Robinson, Anthony Ramos, Zazie Beetz, Alex Borstein, Richard Ayoade and Lilly Singh reprising their roles from the first film. Danielle Brooks, Natasha Lyonne and Maria Bakalova join the cast in the latest movie.

Movie night organizers urge residents to forget the traditional indoor movie theatre for a while — at least one night a week — and instead grab a blanket and watch some popular films under the stars in the heart of Mississauga’s City Centre.

“Families can enjoy their favourite movies, from action-packed adventures to animated classics, all under the stars,” city officials said, adding the movie nights also offer an interactive pre-show featuring special giveaways, courtesy of Square One Shopping Centre.

Check out the 2026 lineup

In past years, the event has drawn thousands of people to the square each Thursday evening. They set up their lawn chairs, lay out their blankets and bring out the snacks to watch a movie on a clear night, organizers said previously.

Here’s the 2026 lineup:

  • Thursday, Aug. 6 — The Bad Guys 2
  • Aug. 13 — The SpongeBob Movie: Search for Squarepants
  • Aug. 20 — Wicked: For Good
  • Aug. 27 — How to Train Your Dragon, Live Action
  • Sept. 3 — Goat

Organizers also urge movie-goers at Celebration Square to skip the single-use items “and instead opt for reusable drink and dishware during your visit to help prevent waste.

“Whether you are grabbing a snack at the food trucks or bringing your own, reusable dishes are available at stations throughout Celebration Square.”

Used dishes are to be returned to the waste-sorting station so they can be cleaned and used for the next movie night, the city said.

Celebration Square Movie Nights have started in June in previous years. However, this year’s slate of films was delayed as the popular outdoor venue showed dozens of 2026 FIFA World Cup matches on the big screens over a five-week period from June 11 through July 19.
