Durham Region’s Health department is dealing with a series of COVID-19 outbreaks this week, including three at long-term care homes.

Amica in Whitby reported six cases of the virus August 24, with one case resolved and the five patients isolating. Extendicare in Oshawa reported two new cases August 27 – both are self-isolating – and Hillsdale Estates in Oshawa reported nine cases of COVID-19 August 26, with one resolved and eight isolating.

Lakeridge Health Bowmanville reported an outbreak August 29 but all patients involved are from outside Durham so no numbers were released.

Outbreaks were also reported at the Global Playground in Oshawa, with seven cases so far from two different basketball tournaments in Oshawa.

There was also an outbreak reported from a child care in Bowmanville August 25 with six people testing positive. Two cases have been resolved and four are home self-isolating.
