Outbreaks of COVID-19 hit 13 schools in Burlington, Oakville and Milton

Halton Region’s health department is dealing with COVID-19 outbreaks at 13 schools including those in Burlington, Oakville and Milton.

According to data provided by Halton, five schools in both Burlington and Oakville are affected and three are in Milton.

Several of the outbreaks have occurred in the past few days, but all affected schools remain open.

The schools with the outbreaks are:

Burlington

Alton Village – 3 cases

Bruce T. Lindley  – 2 cases

M.M. Robinson  – 2 cases

Rolling Meadows – 2 cases

Oakville

Heritage Glen – 3 cases

River Oaks – 2 cases

St. Gregory the Great – 3 cases

St. Luke – 2 cases

St. Theresa of Calcutta – 2 cases

Milton

Escarpment View – 4 cases

Hawthorne Village – 2 cases

Irma Coulson – 6 cases

Under Ontario guidelines, outbreaks in schools are determined based on the following criteria:

  • Two or more students, staff or visitors with COVID-19covid 19 within 14 days
  • At least one of the infected people could have reasonably been infected in the school (for example, there was no obvious source outside the school or exposure at the school was obvious), including transportation to and from school and before- and after-school activities
