Update: The Canada Border Services Agency said the service outage at its primary inspection kiosks has been resolved after causing delays at customs in some of Canada’s busiest airports.
Original story follows.
An outage affecting customs inspection areas at Toronto Pearson Airport in Mississauga and other airports is causing lengthy delays for thousands of travellers on Sunday.
The Canada Border Services Agency’s primary inspection kiosks inside terminals 1 and 3 at Pearson and other airports are experiencing outages, the agency said early Sunday evening.
CBSA officials did not specify what other airports in addition to Pearson are impacted.
“There is currently a CBSA primary inspection kiosks outage impacting some airports. We are working with partners on fixing the issue,” the agency said in a statement on social media. “We apologize for any inconvenience this outage may cause and thank you for your patience.”
Travellers at Toronto Pearson Airport began experiencing delays earlier on Sunday related to the outage as they were going through customs, airport officials say.
The Canada Border Services Agency’s primary inspection kiosks inside terminals 1 and 3 “are currently experiencing a service interruption,” Pearson officials said early Sunday afternoon.
As a result, officials at Canada’s biggest and busiest airport say passengers may experience longer-than-normal wait times at customs.
The Canada Border Services Agency is the federal law enforcement agency responsible for border control, immigration enforcement and customs services at airports in addition to other locations.
Toronto Pearson officials said earlier this past week they expect the airport terminals to be a little less busy these days “as we enter the shoulder season — the period between our summer and winter travel peaks.”
