OTU men’s team takes Rams to OT; Ryerson still sweeps Oshawa school in basketball action

Sooner or later moral victories are not going to be enough for the basketball teams of Ontario Tech.
The men’s team had the latest ‘moral victory’ by taking the Ryerson Rams – medalists in the past four national championships – to overtime Wednesday night before dropping an 85-82 decision.
OTU is now 3-10 overall.
Ammar Hassan had a game-high 24 points for the Ridgebacks and added 10 boards. Kahleek Bakare-Whyte – the school’s Athlete of the Week – scored 19 and Anthony Pate and Graddy Kanku had 18 and 13 respectively.
Elijah Roye’s 24 points and 11 rebounds led the Rams with Tyler Sagl scoring the game-winning bucket in overtime.
The two teams meet again on Saturday night in Oshawa.

The women’s team will have to figure out a way to be better out of the dressing room if they want to run with the top teams after the 8th ranked Rams ran all over them in a 78-38 victory.
Ryerson outscored OUT 21-8 to start the game and 21-3 to start the second half to make sure the game was never in doubt.
Vanessa Budimunda led the Ridgebacks with 17 points while Marin Scotten was the Rams top scorer with 15.
The men’s and women’s teams have already faced – and been thoroughly schooled – by the national powers from Ottawa and Carleton universities, going 0-8 combined against the #1 and #3 ranked schools (men’s) and 6th and 7th ranked teams (women’s) from the nation’s capital.
The women’s team (1-9) will get another shot at Ryerson tomorrow in Oshawa.
