Club Carib celebrated 57 years of Caribbean culture and friendship in Oshawa last month and is the subject a Local History Speakers Series talk Tuesday at the McLaughlin Public Library.

The club, founded in January 1966, has provided a social medium for Oshawa’s Caribbean population to meet, develop relationships and share common interests such as Caribbean dancing and the calypso and other steel drum beats of the Sounds of Steel.

The Local History Speaker Series event – Club Carib: Our First 50 Years – is presented in partnership between the Oshawa Historical Society and the Oshawa Public Libraries. Admission to the Feb. 21 event is free (donations to the historical society will be greatly appreciated) as club members welcome residents to help them share their history in Oshawa.

The McLaughlin Branch of the Oshawa Public Libraries is located at 65 Bagot Street, with the talk being held in the lower level auditorium.
