Oshawa’s Carter, Brampton’s Brown, go on ‘blind date’ for TVO show

Oshawa Mayor Dan Carter and his Brampton counterpart Patrick Brown went on a date in Oshawa Wednesday – a televised Political Blind Date, to be precise – with the plight of the homeless and the opioid crisis part of the date-day conversation.
Political Blind Date is a TVO program now shooting its fifth season which pits politicians of different ideologies and often different levels of government to talk about important issues of the day.
Previous ‘dates’ have paired up former Flint, Michigan Mayor Karen Weaver and Huron-Kinloss Mayor Mitch Twolan to discuss clean drinking water; Quebec MP Pierre Paul-Hus and Toronto Liberal MP Rob Oliphant on asylum seekers; and Ontario Premier Doug Ford and federal NDP leader Jagmeet Singh on transit.
Other issues discussed on the show have included safe injection sites, indigenous rights, taxes, gun control and hallway medicine practices during the pandemic.
Wednesday’s blind date in Oshawa will be shown on TVO in the new year, with the fifth season debuting January 19 at nine p.m.
