Oshawa tested and engineered Project Arrow shines in Canadian International AutoShow spotlight

Oshawa’s Ontario Tech University will be in the spotlight tomorrow (and all next week) when Project Arrow, the first Canadian-made zero-emission vehicle, opens Media Day (Feb. 16) at the 2023 Canadian International AutoShow.
Oshawa’s Ontario Tech University was a leading partner in the all-Canadian engineered concept vehicle and the sleek electric vehicle will take centre stage during the opening events of the AutoShow’s media preview event on February 16. Project Arrow will then be showcased for the duration of the show near the indoor EV Test Drive Track in the main showroom at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
“Project Arrow is an amazing story of innovation and collaboration here in Oshawa,” said Mayor Dan Carter. “Projects such as Project Arrow, combined with our research expertise in automotive engineering, autonomous vehicles and advanced manufacturing are establishing our city as a centre of automotive excellence and innovation.”
Ontario Tech was chosen as the build partner due to its global reputation for excellence in energy, automotive, smart mobility and engineering research expertise. The school also earned the nod for its climate research and testing facility (ACE) that features world-class automotive prototype build capacity and a Climatic Aerodynamic Wind Tunnel with unique capabilities including the capacity to simulate extreme cold and powerful windstorms.
Every design and fabrication detail of Project Arrow was completed on the Ontario Tech campus by a team of experts and future talent from the university’s engineering programs. The team collaborated with many industry partners and suppliers across Canada to contribute and collaborate on then build.
“We are incredibly proud of Ontario Tech University’s leading role in trailblazing Canada’s first vehicle of the future,” said Councillor Tito-Dante Marimpietri, Chair of the Economic and Development Services Committee. “Through exciting one-of-a-kind initiatives like Project Arrow, Ontario Tech’s ACE research and development centre has earned a global reputation for engineering excellence, aerodynamic testing and thermal management of new products in the automotive realm and beyond.”

Project Arrow made its global debut earlier this year at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the world’s the most influential tech event.
The Canadian International AutoShow opens to the general public Thursday and runs until February 26.
Bob Chapman, Vice-Chair of the Economic and Development Services Committee, called the culmination of the project an “incredible achievement,” representing the “next wave” in Canadian automotive innovation. “It shifts our city’s reputation for auto excellence into an entirely new gear.”
