Oshawa teacher charged with child luring

An Oshawa-based teacher has been arrested and charged with child luring in connection to an alleged incident for 2016.
The Durham Regional Police Child Exploitation Unit launched an investigation in February after they received information about an attempted online luring of a child from Kawartha Lakes.
Joel Banbury, 44 from Scugog, was arrested on March 14 on charges of luring to facilitate the commission of sexual assault and luring to facilitate the commission of sexual interference.
Banbury is a teacher at Oshawa’s Coronation Public School in Oshawa. He also once taught at David Bouchard Public School in the same city and coached girls volleyball at a Durham-based club.
Banbury will remain in custody until a bail hearing. The charges have not been proven in court.
