An Oshawa retiree who has been playing the lottery since he was old enough to buy a ticket is $100,000 richer after matching the last six of seven numbers in exact order in the May 16 Lotto Max draw.
John-Scott Lorimer plays Lotto Max and Lotto 6/49 every week and always adds Encore to his Quick Pick selections. The father of two is now celebrating his first big win.
“One morning, while I was still asleep, my wife checked my LOTTO MAX ticket on her phone,” he recounted while visiting the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to claim his winnings. “She was shocked to see a prize amount of $100,000 and checked it three times, just to be sure it was real.”
When Lorimer woke up, he had no idea a six-figure surprise was waiting for him. “My wife said, ‘Something’s going on with the OLG app – you’d better check your tickets,’” he recalled with a chuckle. “I scanned my LOTTO MAX ticket and said, ‘Oh, I won $100!’ My wife was holding back a smile and told me to check my ticket again. That’s when I realized it was actually $100,000. I was in shock! Just seeing the reaction on my wife’s face was priceless.”
With his windfall he plans to pay off his car and share with family.
“Being a winner feels great,” he said with a grin. “It opens up so many possibilities.”
The winning ticket was purchased at The Dollar Store Plus on Rossland Road East in Oshawa.
