A new podcast aiming to educate both companies and employees on diversity in the workplace is set to make its launch, with a goal of introducing and maintaining progressive workplace policies.

Oshawa resident Shassha Austin and University of Windsor Masters student Divine Eke will handle the hosting duties for Diversity on Air, with Austin saying the first episode is currently being edited and “should be dropping soon.”

Austin said she and Eke started working on the podcast in mid-August, though the show and its concept has taken about three months to come together.

The idea, she said, is to have one episode educational and in the other they talk to someone on the subject of diversity.

“We want to talk to people who want to have their voices heard and we want to hear about their struggles and successes.”

University of Manitoba student Haylyn Agacer is the podcast’s producer. “Diversity on Air discusses workplace diversity. From major issues to minor ones, this podcast will help you become more knowledgeable about the dos and don’ts in creating a safe and inclusive environment.”

Both hosts are persons of colour and Austin said she has been dealing with a disability in recent years, but she said they will try not to be confrontational on the show. “Diversity in the workplace has become an issue for me in the past couple of years,” she said, “but the goal is to increase awareness.”

Diversity on Air will be available on all major platforms such as Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

Journey to Diversity Workplaces is a Barrie-based non-profit organization built on improving the business and social environment by championing diversity and the workers within those workplaces. The organization was formed in 2013 by founder and CEO Peter V Tretter with the goal of introducing and maintaining progressive workplace policies. Ideas like higher wages and a four-day workweek are key strategic pillars for the organization to improve the quality of life and social footprint that businesses have on their employees and communities.

“We are so excited to introduce Diversity on Air to a Canadian and International audience,” Tretter said.
