Oshawa Power reliability report shows utility 52% better than Ontario average

The annual reliability report from Oshawa Power shows the utility company achieved a score of 99.9 per cent, continuing a ten-year trend of customers experiencing electrical downtimes 52 per cent less often than the provincial average.
The 2023 Reliability Report details the performance of Oshawa’s local electricity grid over the past calendar year. First released last year but with data going back to 2014, the idea of the report was to provide transparency into how the local utility performed during the past year, detailing reliability score, average outage frequency, response time and more, said Oshawa Power Managing Director Mike Weatherbee.
“We understand that safe and reliable electricity is the backbone of our community. As our community continues to grow at one of the fastest rates in Ontario, our team is responsible for ensuring that our local electricity grid is equipped to handle increases in capacity,” Weatherbee said. “Providing a transparent look at our grid’s performance over time ensures accountability while showcasing the progress we make each year.”
The near perfect score from last year – the number translates to one 48-minute outage per customer for the year – was largely attributed to ongoing grid rejuvenation, including the development of one of Ontario’s most advanced SmartGrids.
